Budget travel secrets

Ah, the art of stretching those travel dollars without missing out on the magic! Here are some budget secrets to help you travel smart and make the most of every penny:

1. Travel Off-Peak:

Avoiding high season and weekends can save you a bundle on cruises, flights, accommodations, and attractions. When children are off from school, rates will be higher, especially on cruises. Aim for shoulder seasons—those blissful in-between times when the weather’s still good, but the crowds are thin.

2. Be Flexible with Dates and Destinations:

Use fare comparison tools like Expedia and Cruise Direct that let the “Explore” feature show you the cheapest destinations from your home airport and cruise port. Flexibility with your travel dates can also unlock hidden deals.

3. Book Smartly:

• Flights: Set fare alerts and book flights on weekdays. Aim for flights early in the morning or late at night when they’re typically cheaper.

• Accommodations: Consider alternatives like VRBO, boutique hotels, or vacation rentals. and always check for discounts or promo codes. Expedia

• Transportation: Use public transport, bikes, or walk when exploring cities. In many places, ride-sharing and local buses are much cheaper than taxis. Park offsite for flights and cruises to save from expensive fees at airports and cruise ports. They shuttle you to the port front door for free.

4. Eat Like a Local:

Skip the tourist traps and opt for local markets, food stalls, and small eateries where the locals dine. Not only is the food more authentic, but it’s also far more affordable.

5. Travel Passes and City Cards:

Many cities offer passes that bundle public transportation and major attractions at a discounted rate. Look for city cards or museum passes if you plan to do a lot of sightseeing. Often you can buy day/several day passes for transportation. Hop on hop off buses can be an Inexpensive way to transport to the major sightseeing locations. Usually the second day is free or a nominal fee.

6. Free Attractions and Activities:
